Google Home: My #1 Recommendation For A Happy Kitchen!
I guess by now you already know about how I feel about the Google Home as a kitchen tool. To me it’s a definite essential, must have tool! I believe when you’re happy and motivated with whatever you do, those feelings come out in the end results. Playing music without having to touch anything with sticky fingers makes me happy! Turning lights on, checking the time, the weather and what my day looks like without leaving finger prints on everything makes me happy! Yes – the verdict is in, my Google Home makes me happy… “hey Google, play Happy by Pharrell Williams” (Because I’m happy!)

Microplane:
I found out about the microplane about 8 years ago in culinary school. I haven’t been without it in my Culinary Toolbox since! Not only does it give you the perfect size grated citrus peel (orange, lemon, lime), it also helps to stop you from grating the bitter white pith because it grates the peel much more precisely and doesn’t grate as deep as a regular kitchen grater. Microplanes are also great for grating spices like nutmeg and cinnamon stick, chocolate and hard cheeses. When I bought mine years ago, I went to a hardware store to buy it because a microplane is really a carpenter’s tool. Now that more people have discovered how handy they are in the kitchen, you can buy one in most places that sell cooking and baking supplies like Walmart, Target and online. I’ve even seen them advertised as a “culinary microplane”!

I use mine to make cookies, muffins and to serve the perfect scoop of mashed potatoes. It has to be one like this with the curved release lever inside the scoop!

Stainless Steel Heavy Duty Potato Masher:
There are cheaper ones but make sure you buy one that’s extra strong! Mashing up meat takes a little extra “umph” that mashing potatoes! You could buy cheap ones and replace them every time it breaks but that’s not working smarter. 🙂
